NoKings.org, a campaign organized by over 200 progressive groups, is calling for a “national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies” on Saturday, June 14. As of this writing, the group claims that more than 1800 events will occur on Saturday—a number that has steadily increased over the last few days.

According to the group’s website:

“On June 14—Flag Day—President Trump wants tanks in the street and a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday. A spectacle meant to look like strength. But real power isn’t staged in Washington. It rises up everywhere else.
“No Kings is a nationwide day of defiance. From city blocks to small towns, from courthouse steps to community parks, we’re taking action to reject authoritarianism—and show the world what democracy really looks like.
“We’re not gathering to feed his ego. We’re building a movement that leaves him behind.
“The flag doesn’t belong to President Trump. It belongs to us. We’re not watching history happen. We’re making it.
“On June 14th, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t—to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings.

Conspicuously absent from the NoKings.org site is any mention that June 14th is the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army, and the “Grand Military Parade” and associated events planned for that day in Washington are actually in celebration of that event. It is only coincidental that President Trump's 79th birthday falls on that day, as well as being Flag Day.

A special note on the NoKings.org page informs readers that there is no No Kings event planned for Washington, D.C. on Saturday. The stated reason for this is draw attention away from the Grand Military Parade and celebrations of Flag Day, the Army’s 250th birthday, and the President's birthday. Instead, a “flagship march and rally” will be held in Philadelphia “to draw a clear contrast between our people-powered movement” and the celebrations in the Capital.

Planned No Kings events include 13 sites across Alabama. On the RSVP site for the Birmingham protest, the following appears:

“We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts. They’ve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies.
“On Saturday, June 14, we’re taking to the streets nationwide. We’re not gathering to feed his ego. We’re building a movement that leaves him behind.
“The flag doesn’t belong to Donald Trump. It belongs to us. We’re not watching history happen. We’re making it.
“On June 14th, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t—to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings.”

While the website cautions that “A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values, some believe that No Kings is attempting to spread the same anti-ICE, anti-Trump “fiery but mostly peaceful protests”—that have recently swept Los Angeles, Atlanta, San Francisco and other major cities—across the nation.

Currently, No Kings protests are planned for Huntsville, Scottsboro, Guntersville, Ft. Payne, Jacksonville, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Dadeville, Auburn, Montgomery, Selma, Dothan and Mobile.

To find the location and times of planned events, as well as the most recent information about all events, the NoKings.org landing page has an interactive map that can be accessed. For some events, it may be necessary to click the “RSVP” button to see details such as addresses and scheduled times. This information will allow users to either participate or avoid these protests, as they desire.

The organizers of NoKings.org are already looking past Saturday, with a “What’s Next In The Fight” mass call scheduled for Monday, June 16 at 8 PM EST.
