28 Days Until Alabama Municipal Elections—A Call to Candidates

Municipal candidates are invited to send OpEds to ALPolitics.com

We’re exactly 28 days out from the August 26th municipal elections in many Alabama cities, and ALPolitics.com wants to give every candidate a chance to be heard.

All municipal candidates—Mayor, City Council, Dogcatcher—are invited to send a 400-500 word Opinion/Editorial (OpEd) piece to News@ALPolitics.com for publication.

This is your chance to tell the voters why they should invest their precious vote in you—because that’s what it is: an investment in the future of their community.

Opinion pieces should be put in the body of the email, so they can be copied-pasted into the ALPolitics.com platform. Make sure you send them in the form you want them to appear—there will be very little (read: NO) editing done prior to publication.

Submission emails should have “Municipal Candidate OpEd” in the subject line.

Opinion pieces should include a link to contact the candidate’s campaign, as well as a headshot to use as a cover photo (landscape orientation in 16x9 or 5x4).

Keep them respectful, and avoid mudslinging, defamation or other things you wouldn’t want your children or grandmother to read—because they will.

That’s it. No requirement that you buy ads (which we’re not even selling—yet), no payments, promises of future favors or any other form of coercion or quid pro quo. Just pure, unadulterated 1st Amendment rights used to educate, inform and enlighten the public.

Yes, we realize this is a DANGEROUS idea. And, yes; our Editor has been known to accept cups of coffee from time to time (he takes it as hot as his hate, black as his heart and dark as his soul).

We cannot promise to publish every submission, and reserve the right to reject any and all submissions for any reason, without comment, notification or explanation.

What we do promise is that we will TRY, as best we can, to give candidates a platform, and voters a way to hear from those candidates directly.

The 1st Amendment, buttressed by the 2nd, is the cornerstone of our Republic. This is what we believe at ALPolitics.com, so this is what we’re going to do.
