Aderholt Throws Support Behind New Medal for Border Personnel
Border Operations Service Medal Act recognizes service on the southern border

Congressman Robert Aderholt (R–AL4) has announced his support for H.R. 3780, known as the Border Operations Service Medal Act. The legislation, introduced by Rep. Tim Moore (R-NC), would award a medal to service members and federal personnel who have served at the nation’s southern border.
Under the bill, the Department of Defense would issue a Border Operations Service Medal to military and National Guard personnel who take part in designated operations, beginning January 1, 2025.
“Our men and women serving on the front lines of the southern border operate under challenging and often dangerous conditions to protect Americans from violent threats,” Aderholt said. “The Border Operations Service Medal Act is a long-overdue honor to the U.S. service members and federal personnel who not only enforce our laws but also help secure our communities. I fully support Congressman Tim Moore’s effort to ensure they receive the recognition they have earned.”
“The Border Operations Service Medal Act protects the Americans from border threats such as human trafficking, terrorism, and mass illegal entries,” Aderholt added. “This legislation gives those who have served, the honor and recognition they deserve.”
Original cosponsors for this legislation include veterans serving in Congress — Reps. Derrick Van Orden (Navy SEAL), John McGuire (Navy SEAL), Abe Hamadeh (Army), Jack Bergman (Marine Corps), Don Davis (Air Force), Hal Rogers (Army), and Tom Barrett (Army) — as well as Reps. Ralph Norman, Robert Aderholt, Juan Ciscomani, and Chuck Edwards.
Rep. Moore emphasized the mission’s urgency: “American troops at our southern border have bravely worked to stop the invasion of our country… They don’t ask for recognition, but they’ve more than earned it.” He also noted that the medal “will be authorized for wear in accordance with uniform regulations and recorded in the recipient’s official service record.”
H.R. 3780 was introduced on June 5, 2025, and referred to the House Armed Services Committee, where it now awaits action. The legislation would cover anyone who serves in designated border operations from January 1, 2025, until the end of those operations.
