Alabama’s Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth will not be running for Governor in the 2026 election cycle.

Taking to Facebook Wednesday morning, May 21, Ainsworth made the announcement, saying “After  much prayer and many discussions with my family, friends, and supporters, I will not be a candidate for governor during the 2026 election cycle.” He then posted a picture of his full statement, which is posted below.

The move answers question many had been considering and clears the way for another candidate, possibly U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, to immediately assume front runner status in the Governor’s race.
