Alabama State Representative Donna Givens (R-Loxley) has been honored with the Friend of the Family Award by the Christian Coalition of Alabama, recognizing her unwavering commitment to protecting the lives of newborns and supporting families in crisis through her advocacy of the Baby Box Bill.

The Award was presented during a special ceremony at the Loxley Civic Center, where supporters, local leaders, and advocates gathered to celebrate Givens’ legislative work and dedication to life-affirming policies.

The Baby Box Bill, which Givens helped lead through the legislative process in the 2023 session, allows for the installation of secure, temperature-controlled baby boxes at designated safe haven locations such as hospitals and fire stations. These boxes provide a safe and anonymous way for parents to surrender their newborns, ensuring the infants receive immediate care while giving parents a compassionate, judgment-free option.

In accepting the award, Givens said, “This is not just an award — it’s a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there can be hope. The Baby Box Bill is about saving lives, and I’m honored to have played a part in giving parents and infants a safer, more humane option.”

The Friend of the Family Award is given annually by the Christian Coalition of Alabama to individuals who demonstrate exemplary leadership in promoting family values, life, and child welfare in the State.

Givens represents District 64, which includes Pine Grove, Stapleton, Loxley, Belforest, Silverhill, Robertsdale, Summerdale, Alberta and Foley. To learn more about Givens, who is seeking reelection to the Alabama House, follow her campaign Facebook page.
