The Alabama Cannabis Coalition would like to announce that we have endorsed Alan Thomas for Alabama House District 50. District 50 is Saint Clair County. Mr. Thomas is very impressive, and we appreciate his positions on Cannabis/Hemp.
His message for Alabama:
“I am running for District 50 because I believe in honest government, defending individual rights, and putting working families first — not political insiders.
“I am absolutely for ending the prohibition, decriminalizing possession, and freeing many non-violent offenders from our prisons. Our prisons are in terrible shape, and that needs work too. With prison overcrowding, the most humane thing we can do for the incarcerated is release the ones that are there for a plant, and one that should be legal at that. And it's not just for those incarcerated. There are war veterans, people on the autism spectrum, and cancer patients that all deserve access to that care. I worked at Children's of Alabama for 5 years and know what those doctors and nurses went through with pediatric oncology and epilepsy patients, wishing they could offer them alternatives to pharmaceuticals. Alternatives with a proven track record. And the data shows that states with more progressive marijuana policies have a lower opioid problem.
“I have lived all across the country, in New Hampshire and Michigan, to name a few places. The way those states handle the cannabis issue is much more rational. While I am here in Alabama, I am committed to moving this state forward. My favorite comment of the week is that 5 drunk guys will start a fight, 5 stoned guys will start a band. Other states do it better. Alabama consistently gets it wrong. And it's time to change that. Neither the ABC Board nor the Pharmacy Board need oversight here. And as I told a local shopkeeper, I don't want a pharmacist advising me on these products, I want a budtender who actually knows what they are talking about.”

Alan Thomas has no opponent in the May 19 primary, making him the presumptive Democratic nominee. He will face either Bill Morris or Bryan K. Newell in the November 3 general election.
