Alabamians Taylor and Destiny Lowry are now en route back to Alabama from Montego Bay, Jamaica, where they were stranded by Hurricane Melissa.

The Lowrys should be back on U.S. soil sometime this weekend. They are among the first Americans being assisted in returning home after a vacation they will likely never forget.

Melissa made landfall on the island nations as a Cat 5 storm with sustained winds of 185 mph, leaving a wake of destruction as it moved north.

Alabama Congressional candidate Joshua McKee is currently in Jamaica with Project DYNAMO, bringing supplies in and people out. Roughly 4,000 pounds of critical aid (MREs, baby formula, tarps, water purification systems, medical kits, and hygiene items) have been gathered in Key West, Florida and are being delivered via multiple aircraft flights and delivered to those in need on the ground.

McKee remains in Jamaica, continuing to assist with relief efforts. Information relayed to ALPolitics.com through his campaign indicates that the situation continues to be dire. One critical care patient on a ventilator has already been helicoptered from Montego Bay to Kingston, and more critically injured victims are being discovered by rescue teams.

U.S. Representative Barry Moore (R-AL1), whose office has been assisting Project Dynamo with arranging flights over Cuban airspace for the relief effort, told ALPolitics.com that:

“Heather and I are happy to hear that this family has been rescued and is  safe. We continue to pray for Jamaica.”

Those in need of assistance, or loved ones of those in need, are urged to fill out a request form at projectdynamo.net/global-evacuation-request. Donations to support Project DYNAMO’s operations can be made at projectdynamo.net.  U.S. citizens in need of emergency consular assistance abroad due to Hurricane Melissa should call the U.S. State Department at 1-888-407-4747 or from overseas +1 202-501-4444.

Military veterans and first responders interested in volunteering can submit their information at projectdynamo.net/volunteer. Organizations wishing to donate bulk supplies should contact info@projectdynamo.net.

Alabamians who wish to support the effort can contact McKee’s campaign for help coordinating larger deliveries.

Founded during the U.S. pullout from Afghanistan in 2021, Project DYNAMO is an international search, rescue, aid and assistance 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in Florida with worldwide operations. The primary objective of Project DYNAMO is to provide assistance to those impacted in disaster areas and conflict zones throughout the world. Notably, Project DYNAMO conducted the first air-rescue missions from Afghanistan after the Taliban took control, and has negotiated the release and exfiltrated numerous Americans from captivity and false imprisonment.
