Week four of the 2026 legislative session delivered strong momentum for Alabama conservatives. Republican lawmakers continued moving meaningful legislation forward—especially on public safety, parental rights, and protecting Alabama’s way of life.
This week, several key Republican priorities cleared the Legislature and advanced to Governor Ivey, including:
HB41 — Representative Matt Simpson’s legislation strengthening penalties for the rape of a child advanced after being carried in the Senate by Senator April Weaver, continuing their strong leadership on protecting Alabama’s children.
HB161 — Representative Chris Sells’ parental rights legislation advanced after being carried in the Senate by Senator Clyde Chambliss, empowering parents by requiring stronger age verification and verified consent before minors can download or purchase apps.
HB181 — Representative Rhett Marques’ Save Our Bay bill protecting Alabama’s coastal waters after being carried in the Senate by Senator Chris Elliott. This is an important step for our fishing industry, our coastal economy, and preserving the natural resources that make Alabama’s Gulf Coast so special.
Republican lawmakers moved a strong slate of legislation forward this week focused on public safety and accountability—including updating Alabama’s laws on manslaughter and other serious crimes, stiffening penalties for making credible terrorist threats, cracking down on drivers who flee from law enforcement, and strengthening enforcement against driving without a valid license.
