Alabama GOP Legislative Recap – Week 6

From the Alabama Republican Party

Momentum continues to build in Montgomery. Week Six of the legislative session reflected steady, disciplined progress on the Conservative priorities that matter most to Alabama families.
Governor Kay Ivey has now signed SB71 into law — a major step forward for regulatory reform in our state. Led by Senator Donnie Chesteen and carried in the House by Representative Troy Stubbs, this legislation reins in state agencies by preventing them from imposing environmental regulations that exceed federal standards unless supported by clear scientific evidence of direct harm. It ensures that rulemaking in Alabama is grounded in facts — not bureaucracy — and protects both jobs and economic growth.
We’re also watching several strong conservative measures that advanced this week:
SB242 — Sponsored by Senator Lance Bell, this legislation strengthens highway safety by requiring commercial drivers with foreign licenses to present valid work authorization and proper entry documentation. It reinforces English proficiency standards and creates penalties for fraudulent credentials, ensuring accountability on Alabama roads.
HB381 (Sarah Marsh Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act) — Sponsored by Representative David Faulkner, this legislation is named in honor of Sarah Marsh, the eight-year-old Mountain Brook girl killed in a flood on July 4, 2025, at Camp Mystic in Texas. The bill establishes statewide emergency preparedness standards for residential youth camps, including background checks, weather monitoring, evacuation planning, and floodplain safeguards to better protect children.
SB70 — Sponsored by Senator Sam Givhan, this bill strengthens Alabama law to ensure child predators cannot avoid prosecution simply because the “child” they targeted was actually an undercover officer. It closes a dangerous loophole and reinforces our state’s commitment to protecting minors.
