Jay Mitchell has gained the endorsement of the Alabama Grocers Association (AGA). The AGA, which speaks for more than 850 grocery stores and 225 suppliers across Alabama, offered its formal backing in his run for Attorney General.

“Alabama grocers are at the heart of our communities. They serve families, create jobs, and keep food on tables in every corner of this state. I’m grateful for the support of the Alabama Grocers Association and for their partnership in building a strong and healthy Alabama,” Mitchell said in a campaign statement.

Mitchell’s team framed the endorsement as a sign of his alignment with local interests. The campaign highlighted its focus on protecting small business, partnering with law enforcement, and strengthening Alabama’s economy. The grocer sector employs more than 188,000 people in Alabama and contributes over $18 billion in economic activity, according to his campaign.

Among the issues Mitchell prioritized were public safety, consumer protections, regulatory predictability, access to food, emergency planning, and workforce development.

“Jay Mitchell understands the connection between safe communities, fair enforcement, and strong local businesses, and we are proud to stand with him,” said Ellie Taylor, AGA’s President and CEO.

Mitchell also noted his legal background and service on Alabama’s pro-business wing of the state Supreme Court. “My experience representing Alabama businesses in the courtroom … uniquely qualifies me in this race. I am ready to link arms with the AGA to tackle the issues that affect grocers and—in turn—every single family in Alabama,” he said.

This endorsement is one of several that Mitchell has secured from in-state business groups. Recent backers include the Alabama Rural Electric Association, the Business Council of Alabama, and the Alabama Trucking Association.

Mitchell added, “I hear the people of Alabama loud and clear, and I am honored to be their choice for Attorney General.”

Mitchell will face the current Attorney General’s Chief Counsel Katherine Robertson and Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey in the May 19, 2026 primary.
