From the Alabama House Republican Caucus

Members of the media:

Alabama House Majority Leader Paul Lee (R - Dothan) and the members of the House Republican Caucus sent a letter on Thursday to the Alabama Republican Party’s steering committee in advance of the annual winter meeting taking place in Birmingham this weekend.

The letter, which is attached in PDF format and copied below, is signed by all 75 members of the House GOP Caucus and details the conservative bills, measures, and initiatives that have been passed under the leadership of Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter (R - Rainsville).
It reads:

March 5, 2026

Ahead of the March 7 ALGOP Winter Meeting, we, the Alabama House Republican Caucus, are writing to express our strongest support for House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter.

Make no mistake about it, the last several weeks have been a challenging time for our caucus. However, political distractions do not erase a record of results. Nor do they diminish the conservative victories that have defined the Alabama House under Speaker Ledbetter’s leadership.

Fortunately, true conservatives such as incoming governor and current U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, Governor Kay Ivey, Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth, and many others have dismissed these claims on the grounds that Speaker Ledbetter’s record as House Majority Leader and now as Speaker tell an entirely different story.

Under Speaker Ledbetter’s leadership, the House has delivered one of the most conservative legislative records in modern Alabama history. We have:

  • Enacted the strongest pro-life protections in America;
  • Passed the Child Predator Death Penalty Act and imposed mandatory life sentences for fentanyl traffickers, solidifying Alabama as a tough-on-crime state;
  • Strengthened election integrity by banning ballot harvesting and requiring post-election audits;
  • Eliminated DEI bureaucracies on college campuses and defended parental rights in public education;
  • Ensured fairness in women’s sports and protected commonsense policies regarding biological sex;
  • Established one of the strongest school choice programs in the nation; and
  • Delivered over $1.4 billion in tax cuts while making record investments in public education — all while maintaining conservative fiscal discipline.

This record did not happen by accident. It happened because Speaker Ledbetter has provided steady, principled leadership focused on advancing bedrock conservative values — not chasing headlines or yielding to political pressure.

While these accomplishments do not even begin to scratch the surface of what the Legislature has done to advance commonsense, conservative policies in the state of Alabama, they do demonstrate that under Speaker Ledbetter’s leadership, the House has delivered in a big way when it comes to fighting for bedrock conservative principles.

It is for that reason we, members of the House Republican Caucus, believe that calling into question Speaker Ledbetter’s leadership is not just an attack on one man — it is an attack on the conservative record we have built together. Time and again, our caucus has delivered for the people of Alabama, and Speaker Ledbetter has been instrumental to that success.

We stand united behind Speaker Ledbetter and respectfully urge the Steering Committee to reject division and stand with the conservative record that has made Alabama a national model.

Respectfully,

House Majority Leader Paul Lee
