HOOVER, AL — The Alabama Republican Party’s State Executive Committee elected State Representative Scott Stadthagen as Chairman during the Party’s 2026 Winter Meeting held this weekend in Hoover.

The State Executive Committee is composed of 475 members representing all 67 counties in Alabama and meets twice each year to conduct official Party business.

The weekend began Friday evening with a sold-out Candidate Meet and Greet Reception, headlined by U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt, who provided attendees with updates on the latest developments in Washington, D.C., and discussed the Republican agenda moving forward.

During Saturday’s business session, members elected Stadthagen as Chairman and adopted several resolutions addressing key issues important to Republican voters across Alabama.

Resolutions Adopted

  • Protecting Public Facilities from Sexually Explicit Performances: Calls on Alabama municipalities and counties to prohibit the use of government-owned facilities for sexually explicit performances and the distribution of sexually explicit materials to minors, while urging enforcement of state laws regarding public lewdness and materials harmful to minors.
  • Supporting Closed Primary Elections in Alabama: Urges the Alabama Legislature to establish a closed primary election system, limiting participation in Republican primaries to voters registered as Republicans in advance of the election. The resolution reaffirms the Alabama Republican Party’s position first adopted in 2022 supporting closed primaries to protect the integrity of the Party’s nomination process.
  • Addressing the Environmental and Community Impacts of Data Centers: Urges state and local governments to reconsider tax incentives and non-disclosure agreements for data centers in Alabama, ensure clear benefits for local communities, expand public input and transparency in project approvals, and encourages collaboration among stakeholders to mitigate environmental impacts and promote sustainable practices.
