I am grateful that the Alabama Republican Party State Executive Committee passed the resolution I introduced commending the United States Supreme Court and honoring the leaders who stood firm for fairness in women’s and girls’ sports.

This resolution does more than recognize a court decision. It places the Alabama Republican Party firmly on the side of biological reality, fair competition and the original promise of Title IX. It declares that women and girls should not be forced to surrender athletic opportunities, championships, scholarships or places on a team because political activists demand that common sense be ignored.

The resolution specifically recognizes the Supreme Court’s June 30, 2026, decisions in West Virginia v. B.P.J. and Little v. Hecox, which upheld the authority of states to reserve women’s and girls’ athletic teams for biological females. It also makes clear that Alabama did not wait for the Supreme Court to act. Our state had already answered both the legal and moral question by protecting female athletics in public schools and colleges.

I especially thank Chairman Scott Stadthagen for his leadership in allowing the resolution to come before the committee and ensuring that an attempt to adjourn did not prevent the members from voting. His leadership gave the State Executive Committee the opportunity to speak clearly and decisively on an issue that matters deeply to Alabama families.

I also thank Representative Susan DuBose and Senator April Weaver for sponsoring the legislation that protects women’s and girls’ athletics in Alabama. Their courage, along with the support of Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama Legislature, ensured that Alabama acted before the courts confirmed that our state was right.

The resolution rightly honors Governor Ivey and the Alabama Legislature for having the foresight and backbone to act despite pressure from national activist organizations and much of the media. It also thanks Senator Tommy Tuberville for his steadfast and unapologetic defense of women’s sports. As a coach, he has always understood that rules, competition and fairness matter. He never backed down when the political pressure intensified.

Finally, I am thankful that President Donald J. Trump appointed the Supreme Court majority that restored common sense and upheld the authority of states to protect female athletics. Elections have consequences, and this decision demonstrates the lasting importance of President Trump’s judicial legacy.

Alabama did not wait for permission to defend women and girls. We acted because it was right. The Supreme Court has now confirmed what Alabamians already knew: protecting fair competition is constitutional, necessary and just.

By passing this resolution, the Alabama Republican Party sent a clear message that we will continue to stand with female athletes, defend fairness and reject every effort to erase the distinctions that make women’s sports possible. This was not merely a symbolic vote. It was a statement of principle, gratitude and resolve.
