Alabama Veteran of the Year Endorses McKee for Congress
Alabama Vietnam Veteran of the Year CW4 Robert N. Cooper backs congressional candidate Joshua McKee, praising his outsider message, military service
Congressional candidate Joshua McKee announced a new endorsement this week from retired Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 Robert N. Cooper, who currently holds the title of “Vietnam Veteran of the Year” from the Alabama State Council of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Cooper, a longtime figure in Alabama’s Veteran community, said he supports McKee’s campaign because he sees the retired Green Beret as an outsider willing to challenge the political establishment.
“I’ve seen plenty of politicians come and go, promising the world and delivering nothing,” said CW4 Robert N. Cooper. “Joshua McKee isn't a career politician; he’s a man of action who understands the cost of freedom. We don't need more people who have spent their lives in the 'system.' We need a leader from the outside who has the guts to take the fight to the establishment. Joshua is that leader.”
McKee, a retired U.S. Army Special Forces soldier and Bronze Star recipient, has centered his campaign on the theme “Service, Not Politics.” He is seeking the Republican nomination in Alabama's 1st congressional district.
The campaign says McKee has also received support from several national political organizations and conservative leaders, including:
- Green Beret PAC
- Border Patriot PAC
- Gator PAC
- Congressman Rich McCormick
- Colonel Rob Maness
- Veterans for America First (VFAF)
McKee said Cooper’s support reflects a growing coalition of Veterans backing his campaign.
“I am not a creature of Washington, and I never will be,” said Joshua McKee. “Receiving the support of a hero like CW4 Robert Cooper is a reminder of why I’m running. The career politicians have failed our Veterans and ignored our borders for too long. With the backing of the Green Beret PAC, Congressman McCormick, and now the Alabama Veteran of the Year, we are sending a clear message: the outsiders are taking our country back.”
Alabama’s 1st Congressional District, which includes Baldwin, Coffee, Covington, Dale, and Escambia counties along with portions of Mobile County. The Republican primary is scheduled for May 19, 2026.
Joshua McKee is a retired Green Beret, Bronze Star recipient, and disabled U.S. Army Veteran who served for 25 years. After leaving the military, he worked in the private sector and now lives in Baldwin County with his family. His campaign platform emphasizes Veterans’ care reform, border security, and fiscal restraint.
