Guest Opinion by Diane Caldwell, AFRW Second Vice President

You may have read the news last week about Alabama’s Republican Women taking home multiple awards at the recent NFRW convention in Orlando. Alabama took home the two top membership awards-Greatest Number Increase of Members and Greatest Net Increase of New Clubs. While these achievements are noteworthy, I’d like to provide a little context.

In 2024, each club aimed for a 25% growth as part of an NFRW membership initiative. Members held events and forums to engage women and share information about candidates and the Republican Party.  The enthusiasm for the Trump/Vance campaign provided the impetus for our existing members to stay engaged. Many women, new to the political process, found a political home in our organization.  As a result, we netted 343 additional members statewide.

Point Clear Republican Women led the way by adding the greatest number of new members with 80, a stunning achievement for a club that was only chartered in 2023 under the leadership of President Jerry Ann McCarron.

Fourteen additional clubs exceeded 25% growth. These clubs include Downtown Huntsville Republican Women, Winston County Republican Women, Republican Women of North Shelby, Eastern Shore Republican Women, Republican Women of South Talladega County, Etowah County Republican Women, Jackson County Republican Women, Colbert County Republican Women, Shelby County Republican Women, South Baldwin Republican Women, West Mobile Republican Women, East Alabama Republican Women, Chilton County Republican Women and Capital City Republican Women.

But that’s only part of the story. Six new clubs were established. North Baldwin County Republican Women, South Mobile County Republican Women, South Shelby County Republican Women, Republican Women of Franklin County, Republican Women of the Black Belt and Chilton County Republican Women all received their charters in 2024 and 2025.

Momentum continues with two more clubs—Elmore County Republican Women and Autauga County Republican Women—set to charter this year. They join new clubs in the Black Belt, Chilton County, and Franklin County, broadening our reach and influence in areas we did not previously have a presence.

As Membership Vice President, I am grateful for the leadership of our President, Tiffany Noel, our club presidents and our district directors whose hard work and creativity translated into our growth. Individual clubs’ success will be recognized and celebrated at our state convention in Birmingham later this month.

We welcome Republican women to join our existing clubs or start new ones. Visit www.alfrw.org  for more information on how to get involved.
