ALGOP Announces Candidates for HD13 Special Election Republican Primary

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Qualifying for the special election in Alabama House District 13 officially closed at 5:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
Three Republican candidates qualified to appear on the Alabama Republican Party Special Election Primary ballot:
- Greg Barnes
- Dustin Beaty
- Mike Elliott
House District 13 encompasses portions of Walker County and became vacant following the election of former Representative Matt Woods to the Alabama Senate last month in a special election for Senate District 5.
ALGOP Chief of Staff Shannon Whitt praised the strength of the candidate field and reaffirmed the Party’s commitment to keeping the seat in Republican hands:
"We’re excited to have three strong conservatives stepping forward to serve the people of Walker County. House District 13 has a proud tradition of Republican leadership, and this election gives voters an opportunity to choose who they believe is best equipped to carry that legacy forward in Montgomery."
The special election dates are as follows:
- Special Primary Election: Tuesday, September 30, 2025
- Special Primary Runoff (if needed): Tuesday, October 28, 2025
- Special General Election: Tuesday, January 13, 2026
