ALGOP Announces Close of Congressional Special Primary Candidate Qualifying

HOOVER, Ala. — The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) announced today that candidate qualifying for the Special Republican Primary Elections in Alabama’s affected congressional districts has officially concluded.

Following Governor Kay Ivey’s proclamation calling Special Primary Elections for Alabama’s redrawn congressional districts, Republican candidates qualified to appear on the Tuesday, August 11, 2026, Special Primary Election ballot. Pursuant to legislation passed during the recent special session, Republican nominees will be determined solely by the results of the August 11 election. 

The following Republican candidates qualified for the Special Primary Election:

U.S. House of Representatives – Congressional District 1

  • Jerry Carl
  • Rhett Marques
  • Joshua McKee
  • John Mills
  • Austin Sidwell

U.S. House of Representatives – Congressional District 2

  • Hampton Harris
  • Christian Horn
  • David Matthews
  • James Richardson

U.S. House of Representatives – Congressional District 6

  • Case Dixon
  • Gary Palmer

U.S. House of Representatives – Congressional District 7

  • David W. Perry

Chairman Scott Stadthagen said the close of qualifying marks an important milestone as voters in the affected congressional districts prepare for the upcoming Special Primary Election. He encourages Republicans across those districts to turn out and make their voices heard on August 11 as the Party selects its nominees.

The Congressional Special Primary Election will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The General Election will occur as scheduled on Tuesday, November 3, 2026
