ALGOP Celebrating Sweeping Victories Across Alabama

From the Alabama Republican Party

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Alabama Republican Party is celebrating major victories in this week’s municipal runoff elections, as every candidate supported under the Party’s new municipal program won their race. These victories showcase not only the strength of individual candidates but also the effectiveness of ALGOP’s renewed commitment to protecting conservative leadership in city government.

The Party launched a comprehensive municipal program for the runoff election that provided candidates with targeted resources, including direct mail, grassroots mobilization, voter contact by text message, and digital advertising. The program marks a deliberate expansion of the Party’s efforts into municipal races—an area where Democrats have increasingly attempted to gain ground by running candidates under the banner of nonpartisan elections.

“These victories show just how vital voter outreach is at every level of government,” said Chairman Wahl. “For too long, Democrats have tried to slip into city government under the cover of nonpartisan labels—but that ends now. The Alabama Republican Party is fully committed to standing with our candidates in every race, from Washington to Montgomery to City Hall.”

The success of ALGOP’s targeted races Tuesday night highlights the effectiveness of the Party’s efforts to boost voter turnout and defend Republican candidates.

Examples of these wins include:

  • Guntersville – Republican mayoral candidate Leigh Dollar secured a 58%–42% victory after the August 26 general election ended in a tie with former Democrat State Rep. and Hillary Clinton donor Jeff McLaughlin.
  • Hoover – Both Republican City Council candidates advanced from the general election to runoffs and won decisively Tuesday, each significantly increasing their vote shares.
  • Mobile – The most high-profile contest of the night saw long-time Democrat State Representative Barbara Drummond—endorsed by Vice President Kamala Harris and Senator Raphael Warnock—defeated by former Republican District Judge Spiro Cheriogotis. Despite national attention and Democrat efforts to win the seat, voters chose conservative leadership.

ALGOP Chairman John Wahl said the results highlight the quality of conservative candidates, the efforts of their volunteers, and the importance of Republican turnout in city-level elections:

“These victories sent a clear message and underscored the power of local voters rejecting far-left influence in Alabama’s cities. Voters want leaders who will keep our neighborhoods safe, build a stronger economy, and defend our freedoms—not big-government politicians who think they know how to live our lives better than we do.”

Wahl emphasized that the Party’s municipal engagement is about more than party labels—it’s about advancing good governance and ensuring Alabama families are protected:

“We saw conservative candidates win because they stand for the common-sense policies that resonate with voters of all backgrounds. Safety for our families, better jobs, and freedom are popular no matter what party you identify with. This week’s results prove that when we share our values and stand together, conservatives can and will win. Our municipal program is about making sure voters always know which candidates share their values, and that the Republican Party is here to defend them and help every community thrive.”
