ALGOP Elevates Communication Chief Burniston to Legislative Lead
Will now serve in dual role as Director of Legislative Affairs and Communications Director

The Alabama Republican Party has promoted Jeannie Negrón Burniston, its longtime Communications Director, to also serve as Director of Legislative Affairs. Burniston will split her duties—continuing her media work while also helping shape the Party’s legislative plan.
In her expanded dual role, she’ll partner with Party Chairman John Wahl to guide ALGOP’s legislative focus. Her work will include liaising with Republican lawmakers and conservative groups to advance family‑centric policies. She’ll also assist in outreach and strategic efforts tied to the Party’s upcoming priorities.
“Jeannie has worked closely with me over the past several legislative sessions, helping research, communicate, and support key conservative initiatives,” Chairman Wahl said in a statement. “She has already begun tracking pre‑filed bills for the 2026 session and identifying the issues we should take on next year. Her insight, attention to detail, and commitment to Republican values have made a tremendous impact.”
Wahl added, “Jeannie has earned the trust and respect of many of our House and Senate members and has developed a strong reputation for professionalism and policy knowledge … I know she’ll continue to be a valuable asset to our Party and our state.”
Burniston has led ALGOP’s communications strategy since 2019, earning national acclaim. Prior to that, she held leadership roles in Republican organizations statewide and advised more than 20 political campaigns. She began her career in New York City as an Edward R. Murrow Award–winning journalist before relocating to Alabama in 2006.
