From the Alabama Republican Party

August 2

HOOVER, Ala. – The Alabama Republican Party State Executive Committee (SEC) convened Saturday, August 1, 2026, for its Summer Meeting in Montgomery. During the meeting, committee members conducted official party business, adopted resolutions, and approved an addition to the Alabama Republican Party Platform.

The Committee overwhelmingly approved adding the following statement to the Party Platform:

"We support legislation restricting members of other political parties from voting in the Republican primary.”

In addition to the platform amendment, the SEC adopted the following resolutions:

  • Resolution Urging Action on Mail-Order Abortion Drugs: Calls on Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to take immediate action to end the Biden Administration’s mail-order abortion drug policy and restore in-person dispensing requirements.
  • Resolution Supporting Campaign Finance Transparency: Encourages legislation prohibiting candidates from directing campaign contributions to nonprofit organizations they or their immediate family control and promotes greater transparency in campaign finances.
  • Resolution Supporting Fairness in Women’s and Girls’ Sports: Commends the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision upholding state laws protecting women’s and girls’ sports while recognizing the leadership of Alabama officials who championed these protections.
  • Resolution on Crimes of Moral Turpitude: Urges the Alabama Legislature to classify the crime of a school employee engaging in a sex act with a student as a crime involving moral turpitude.
  • Resolution Enhancing Accountability for School Employee Sexual Misconduct: Calls for stronger legislation and penalties to ensure maximum accountability for school employees convicted of engaging in sex acts with students.
  • Resolution Honoring Former ALGOP Chairman John Wahl: Recognizes Chairman Wahl’s years of leadership and his contributions to strengthening the Alabama Republican Party.

"Our Party leaves Montgomery energized, united, and ready for the work ahead,” said ALGOP Chairman Scott Stadthagen. “Republicans across Alabama are focused on winning on August 11 and carrying that momentum into the November 3 General Election. The decisions made by our SEC this weekend reflect our continued commitment to conservative principles, election integrity, and building an even stronger Republican Party.”

The Summer Meeting followed Friday night’s highly successful America 250 Celebration and Summer Dinner, which welcomed more than 1,200 attendees from across Alabama and featured Republican leaders from across the country.

The SEC is comprised of nearly 500 members representing every county and congressional district across the state. The Committee will next convene for its Winter Meeting in Birmingham on Saturday, February 27, 2027.
