Republican Heath Allbright swept to victory in the special general election for Alabama House District 11 Tuesday evening.

Unofficial results show Allbright earned 2,783 votes, or 88.38%, while Democrat Alex Braswell received 351 votes(11.15%) and write-ins tallied 15 votes (0.48%).

Allbright was sworn in last evening, immediately filling the vacancy left by the February 17th resignation of long-time Representative Randall Shedd. Shedd left the House to serve as Director of Constituent Affairs for Senate President Pro Tempore Garlan Gudger.

Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl praised the result, saying:

“I want to congratulate Heath Allbright on his strong victory tonight. Heath has proven himself to be a conservative leader, a man of faith, and a fighter for Alabama families. I know he will bring that same dedication to the State House as he works to defend our freedoms, protect our values, and ensure that the voices of the people are always put first. The voters of House District 11 chose well, and I look forward to working alongside Heath to keep Alabama strong.”

In May’s Republican primary, Allbright, a businessman and former member of the Cullman County Board of Education, edged out Don Fallin to win the GOP nomination. He then faced Democratic candidate Alex Braswell, a sign-language interpreter, in the general election.
