Allen leads Wahl by 17 points in Alabama Lt. Gov. Race
New data from The Alabama Poll shows Wahl with a double-digit lead, little effect from Trump’s endorsement of Wahl
New polling data from The Alabama Poll shows that Secretary of State Wes Allen has a commanding lead over former ALGOP Chairman John Wahl in the race to become Alabama’s next Lieutenant Governor.
In a poll done February 4 of 500 likely Republican voters, Wes Allen has a significant lead over not only Wahl but other challengers Dr. Nicole Jones Wadsworth and Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Rick Pate:

Allen responded to the poll in a campaign statement, saying:
“The poll numbers reflect what I'm hearing as I travel around the state. I'm the most qualified person to serve as the next Lt. Governor. People tell me they want to elect someone with a real record, not just rhetoric. I am the only one in the race with a proven conservative track record of actually getting things done."
The poll, conducted after President Trump’s endorsement of Wahl, showed that the President's endorsement had only modestly increased the likelihood of the typical voter being “more likely” to support Wahl—the weakest Trump endorsement effect of any tested by this poll. The poll compared a generic Trump endorsement (59% “more likely”) against Trump’s endorsement of Barry Moore in the Senate race (43% “more likely”) versus Wahl’s 38% “more likely.”
Given the President's consistently high ratings in Alabama, an increase of just over one-third for Wahl is notable.
Additionally, 47% of voters had never heard of Wahl, while Allen, as sitting Secretary of State, enjoys higher visibility and name recognition, with only 34% of voters saying they were unaware of Allen.
Perhaps the most revealing number was the high level of undecided voters in the Lt. Governor’s race — 59%. While Allen enjoys the largest lead in any contested Statewide primary at this point, the number of undecided voters should spur all of the candidates to greater efforts in the runup to the May 19 primary.
