Angleo “Doc Mancuso” Urges Consideration of Lawrence County for Future Space Academy

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. — Dr. Angelo “Doc” Mancuso, a former member of the Alabama House of Representatives and Independent Candidate for Alabama State House District 7, today calledon U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville and Congressman Dale Strong to consider Lawrence County — particularly Courtland — as a possible location for a future Space Academy.

With the U.S. Space Force preparing to relocate its headquarters to Redstone Arsenal, Mancuso said North Alabama must also invest in the workforce and education infrastructure needed to support the region’s aerospace, defense,and space future.

“I respectfully ask Senator Tuberville and Congressman Strong to consider Lawrence County as a possible home for the Space Academy,” Mancuso said. “If we are serious about leading in space innovation, we must train the nextgeneration of engineers, technicians, skilled tradesmen, and aerospace professionals.”

Mancuso said Lawrence County offers affordable developable land, Highway 20 access, proximity to Redstone Arsenal, and room for training facilities, aviation-related activities, security buffers, and future expansion.

Courtland has an airport that could support training opportunities and is located near Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and United Launch Alliance operations. Mancuso said a Space Academy could strengthen local STEM and career-techprograms, create jobs, and provide more opportunities for young people to build careers close to home.

“Courtland would complement Huntsville, not compete with it,” Mancuso said. “Lawrence County has the land, workforce, and potential to help build Alabama’s future in space.”
