"This campaign is about building a justice system that works for everyone, not just the powerful few," said Dunham. "I am honored to have the support of leaders like Deborah Paseur, Rep. Hall, and Rep. Lands, who have each shown unwavering commitment to serving the people of Alabama."

Dunham, a Jefferson County court referee and family-law attorney, launched her campaign earlier this summer in the Democratic primary. She brings a deeply personal connection to her platform—having relied on in-vitro fertilization (IVF) outside of Alabama to have her daughter. Dunham cited a controversial 2024 ruling by the state’s highest court that classified frozen embryos as children—an opinion she calls “anti-family” and deeply out of touch with many Alabamians.

Dunham has said that, “Our Supreme Court needs justices who understand the real challenges families face.“ No family should have to leave their home state to pursue the dream of parenthood,” she also said.

Her message is clear: Alabama’s Supreme Court must reflect—and respond to—the lives of real people.

The 2024 ruling sparked a temporary suspension of IVF services statewide and prompted emergency legislation to shield doctors from liability. Dunham said that moment motivated her candidacy. In a July interview she reflected, “I’m an IVF mom… when that decision came out, I was like, we are headed in the wrong direction…”

Her campaign emphasizes three pillars: parental rights, moderate stances on the Second Amendment, and protecting reproductive healthcare as a private matter between families and doctors. She also uses platforms like TikTok and Instagram to explain legal issues in everyday language—and to connect directly with voters.

As of late July 2025, official records show her campaign had raised $20,840.59, spent $20,164.69, and retained $675.90on hand.

If she wins the Democratic primary, Dunham would face long-serving Justice Greg Shaw, who has held his seat since 2008 and was reelected in 2020.
