Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama Backs Robertson for AG
“At ABC, we like proven leaders, and Katherine Robertson has proven she can deliver results for Alabama’s construction industry”-ABC of AL Chairman Tim Harrison
The Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama (ABC) has announced that it is endorsing Katherine Robertson in the 2026 race for Alabama Attorney General, highlighting her long record of pushing back against federal regulations that affect the state’s construction sector.
“Katherine Robertson has spent nearly a decade in the Attorney General’s Office standing up for Alabama’s construction industry and fighting back against federal overreach that threatens our ability to do business,” said ABC of Alabama Chairman Tim Harrison. “She understands the challenges we face—from burdensome regulations to workforce shortages—and has a proven track record of delivering results. That’s why we’re proud to endorse her for Attorney General.”
Robertson currently serves as Chief Counsel to Attorney General Steve Marshall. During her time in the office, she has been involved in several high-profile legal challenges that directly affect builders and contractors. She played a major role in stopping the Biden administration’s federal-contractor vaccine mandate, which the state argued was unlawful. She also helped secure court wins against the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule and has led efforts opposing environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies that industry groups say threaten free-market principles.
Robertson’s campaign noted that she is ready to work with a future Trump administration “to secure wins for Alabama’s economy and for common sense.”
“It is a real honor to receive the endorsement of Alabama’s construction industry leaders. The Alabama Attorney General’s Office plays a key role in protecting our state’s economy, which includes our robust construction industry. I’ve been proud to use the tools of the AG’s Office to expose the sham ESG movement, to unwind oppressive regulatory schemes, and to help usher in a freer market for construction in Alabama. ABC has a deep understanding of and appreciation for their partnership with the AG’s Office and I’m grateful that the organization wants to see that partnership continue under my leadership.”
Robertson also pointed to her personal connection to issues surrounding land use and regulation.
“Having grown up in rural Alabama with family roots in industries that depend on private property rights, I understand what’s at stake when the federal government tries to control how Alabamians use their land and run their businesses,” she said. “During my tenure at the Attorney General’s Office, we’ve played a consequential role in thwarting onerous federal policies imposed by a hostile administration and now working with the Trump Administration to reset the regulatory landscape in a way that will allow the construction industry to flourish. ABC knows what they’re getting with my leadership—they know I have no plans of slowing down.”
Industry leaders say the construction sector plays a central role in Alabama’s economy, supporting roughly 200,000 jobs and producing about 5% of the State’s economic output. ABC’s endorsement signals the group’s desire for an Attorney General who understands the legal and regulatory barriers facing merit-shop builders.
“At ABC, we like proven leaders, and Katherine Robertson has proven she can deliver results for Alabama’s construction industry,” Harrison added. “She’s fought against government-mandated project labor agreements, stood up to EPA overreach, and defended the religious freedom of federal contractors. She simply gets us and understands our industry.”
Robertson, a Selma native and eighth-generation Dallas County resident, graduated from Auburn University and earned her law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. She lives in Birmingham with her husband, Ryan, and their two children. She is seeking the Republican nomination for Attorney General in the May 19, 2026, primary.
ABC of Alabama represents the state’s merit-shop construction industry, which employs about 200,000 workers and makes up 5% of Alabama’s economic output.
