U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi recently said she’s “looking forward to visiting” Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville. She spoke during a House Appropriations hearing about the Department of Justice’s Fiscal Year 2026 budget.

Rep. Dale Strong (R‑Huntsville), the Vice Chair of the Commerce‑Justice‑Science Subcommittee, pressed Bondi on how DOJ funding would support Huntsville’s security roles. “As you know, I represent Alabama’s Fifth District, which includes Huntsville and Redstone Arsenal,” Strong said as he introduced the topic.

Bondi responded with a big yes to expanding FBI operations there. She confirmed the DOJ plans to move about 500 personnel from D.C. to Redstone by year’s end. “Redstone is a state‑of‑the‑art facility… it will enhance everything we do… and I look forward to visiting it one day,” she told Strong.

The discussion also touched on the possible reorganization of the ATF and DEA. Bondi stressed that there are no planned cuts for the ATF in Huntsville. In fact, she said that having agents from both agencies work side by side would streamline efforts. “The drugs and the guns go together…they’ll be working hand in hand,” she said.

Bondi called operations in Huntsville “remarkable,” praising the federal presence there. The Arsenal hosts the FBI’s Hazardous Devices School and Terrorist Explosive Device Analytic Center. It’s also home to the ATF’s National Center for Explosives Training and Research, the U.S. Bomb Data Center, and the National Ballistics Training Hub (NIBIN).

Huntsville has been pushing to become Alabama’s go‑to spot for safety and security. Adding more DOJ staff and bolstering the Arsenal’s facilities means more jobs and stronger local partnerships.

Bondi’s plan to visit is a good sign she wants a hands-on look. If the Arsenal keeps growing, Alabama will see more federal projects come here.
