U.S. Representative Barry Moore (R-AL-1) officially qualified today as a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, with a campaign announcement at the Alabama GOP headquarters in Birmingham before supporters and media. Moore is seeking to take the seat being vacated as Senator Tommy Tuberville runs for Governor in 2026.

Moore framed his campaign as a continuation of the conservative movement that began with former President Donald Trump’s rise. He reminded supporters that in 2015 he was the first elected official in the nation to endorse Trump’s presidential bid — a point he has made repeatedly during his political career.

“We have so much more to do,” Moore said in his remarks, praising what he described as achievements under the Trump administration and promising to continue fighting for lower taxes, border security, and economic growth in Washington.

“Just under a year ago, our President was sworn in for his second term. It was the height of a decade-long journey that President Trump began when he came down the golden escalator and promised to Make America Great Again. On August 21, 2015, I was proud to join him on that journey as the first elected official in America to endorse Donald J. Trump for President.
“But January 20th of last year, when President Trump began his second term, wasn't the end of the journey to Make America Great Again. It was the beginning. We've done so much already - shut down the illegal immigrants pouring over our borders, restored American strength abroad, and put a stop to the reckless lawfare of the Biden Administration.
“We are on the precipice of an American Golden Age if we have the strength to follow through. No state has stood with President Trump as long as Alabama. And no one in Alabama has stood with President Trump as long as I have.
“The President needs someone he can trust to usher in that Golden Age. We can’t trust a Senate seat on anyone untested or unproven. We need a spine of steel representing us in Washington to do what must be done – and someone who has the relationships and reputation to do it.
“I’m the only one with the relationships to start to work day one. We need that because we will only have 24 months left with President Trump. We simply don’t have time to train someone to legislate. We don’t have time to waste on them getting staffed and learning the process. There will be no learning curve for me. Again, I will be ready day one.”

Moore’s campaign kickoff comes as he balances the new Senate bid with his work in the House, where he has championed several notable pieces of legislation this year:

  • Family Advocacy Reform: Moore introduced the Advocates for Families Act of 2025 (H.R. 5647), legislation aimed at reshaping the child welfare system. The bill would require States to give parents access to trained family advocates early in any child welfare investigation. Moore said the measure would “improve negotiations between families and the system… reduce stress on foster children, parents, and families, and save taxpayer dollars” — a position backed by the Family Forward Project.
  • Rulemaking Oversight: In December, Moore introduced the Safeguarding U.S. Rulemaking Act, targeting what he describes as a loophole that allows hostile foreign governments, including China, to submit public comments on U.S. federal rulemaking. Moore argued in support of the legislation that “federal rulemaking should reflect the voices of the American people, not the agendas of adversaries.”
  • Regulatory Reform: Moore also co-sponsored the Freedom to Fuel Act (H.R. 7000), which seeks to strip federal emissions rules from portable fuel containers under the Clean Air Act. He said this change would return “common sense” to federal rulemaking and ease regulatory burdens on farmers, homeowners, and small businesses.
  • Children’s Issues Debate: Moore voted in favor of the Protect Children’s Innocence Act when it came to the House floor, where he led the debate. That broader measure would criminalize certain gender-related medical procedures for minors.

Moore’s remarks at the qualifying event reiterated his commitment to what he calls a “Golden Age of America” under Trump’s leadership, and he said he’s uniquely prepared to step into the Senate without a learning curve. He emphasized family, faith, and Alabama values as central themes of his campaign.

Moore, a native of Coffee County, Alabama, is a Christian, husband, father of four, and a small-business owner. Before serving in Congress, he was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2010. In Washington, he serves on key committees and is a member of the House Freedom Caucus.
