Shelby County Chief Deputy District Attorney Ben Fuller has officially qualified to run in the Republican Primary for Shelby County District Judge, Place 3, a seat created by the Alabama Legislature in 2024.

A conservative prosecutor and lifelong Shelby County resident, Fuller began campaigning for the position over the summer. He points to more than a decade of legal experience, a strong Christian faith, and a focus on public safety as the core of his candidacy.

“As a prosecutor, I’ve spent my career standing up for victims, supporting law enforcement, and keeping dangerous criminals off the streets,” Fuller said. “Now I’m ready to serve from the bench applying the law as it’s written and defending the Constitution every step of the way.”

Fuller was born and raised in Shelby County and graduated from Shelby County High School in Columbiana. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Auburn University and a law degree from Birmingham School of Law, where he graduated Valedictorian. He has served as an Assistant District Attorney in Shelby County since 2015, handling cases that range from misdemeanor domestic violence to drug trafficking and capital murder. Since 2022, he has served as Chief Deputy District Attorney and lead trial attorney for the office.

A member of South Columbiana Church of Christ, Fuller says his faith shapes his approach to public service.

“My faith is at the center of everything I do,” Fuller said. “Justice isn’t just a legal idea, it's a moral calling. As Judge, I’ll bring honesty, humility, and accountability to every decision.”

Fuller says his views align with conservative voters in Shelby County. His campaign platform focuses on enforcing the law with integrity, prioritizing public safety, maintaining fair and orderly courtrooms, and applying the law as written without legislating from the bench.

“Describing myself as conservative isn’t just empty speech for me, it reflects the values I live by,” Fuller said.

His ties to the Republican Party date back to his college years, when he joined the College Republicans and later helped found the Shelby County Young Republicans. He currently serves as a state committeeman for the organization and sits on the Shelby County Republican Party Executive Committee.

“This race is about making sure our communities are safe, our courts are fair, and our Constitution is protected,” Fuller said. “I’m not running to be a politician. I’m running to be a Judge who serves the people of Shelby County with integrity and conviction.”

The Judgeship Fuller is seeking is the first new district court seat added in Shelby County since 1990. Fuller says the position is long overdue given the county’s growth.

“We are many years overdue for this new Judgeship with the growth that we’ve seen in our County,” Fuller said. “It is of vital importance that we elect a Judge who is ready to do hard work from day one, and I know my experience qualifies me to do exactly that.”

The campaign reports early support from local leaders, law enforcement, and community members. More information is available at www.Fuller4Judge.com and on social media at facebook.com/benfuller4Judge and Instagram @BenFuller4Judge.
