The Greater Birmingham Young Republicans (GBYR) hosted Shelby County Assistant DA Ben Fuller Thursday evening at Slice Crestline in Mountain Brook.

Fuller is currently a candidate for District Judge in Shelby County, the first new judgeship added in the County since 1999.

At the meeting, Fuller and the attendees discussed topics ranging from the recent national YR text leaks to the implications of the Pentagon's new press policies. When discussing the latter, he readily acknowledged that he had often been unable to provide information to the press due to ongoing investigations or other constraints, but that afterwards, Alabama’s Open Records law would make information available.

Fuller went on to say that he understood some of the concerns some members of the press have had about a “slippery slope” of information control. When asked directly by ALPolitics.com if he thought the new policy would stand up to legal challenge, he appeared to honestly replied “I don’t know.”

A graduate of Auburn University and the Birmingham School of Law, where he was Valedictorian of his class, Fuller has been with the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office since 2011. He has served as Chief Deputy District Attorney and lead trial attorney for the DA’s Office for several years.

He became active in politics as a member of the College Republicans and later was a co-founder of the Shelby County Young Republicans. He continues to serve as an ALGOP State Committeeman and is an active member of the Shelby County Republican Party Executive Committee.

Fuller’s platform is based on conservative Alabama values:

  • Enforcing the law with integrity and strength
  • Supporting law enforcement and first responders
  • Safeguarding communities by prioritizing public safety
  • Ensuring the courtroom is run with order, fairness and respect
  • Upholding the Constitution and applying the law—not legislating from the bench

Fuller is on the ballot in the Republican primary scheduled for May 19, 2025. For more information on Fuller and his campaign, follow him on Facebook.
