Benderson Announces Candidacy for AL State Senate District 24
Republican Richard Benderson will face long-term incumbent Democrat Bobby Singleton in the November 3rd General Election
Richard Benderson has announced his qualification for the Republican nomination for Alabama State Senate District 24. As the sole Republican who qualified for the seat, he is the presumptive Republican nominee for the position.
Benderson is offering a practical, attainable vision centered on economic development, accountability, and regional collaboration, with a steadfast commitment to advancing the interests of all Alabamians—particularly those in the Black Belt.
In announcing his candidacy, Benderson said:
“It is now time to move the Black Belt forward with leadership that is focused on results—economic development, regional collaboration, and service to residents of Alabama. After years of the same leadership, too many people still feel unseen and unheard. If you don’t know who your state senator is, then I doubt you’ve truly been served. I respectfully ask for the opportunity to serve as your next state senator for District 24.”
Senate District 24 includes Choctaw, Sumter, Marengo, Greene, Hale, and parts of Tuscaloosa County.
“I believe in responsibility, stewardship of taxpayer dollars, and empowering local communities,” Benderson added. “The challenges facing our district—job creation, infrastructure, healthcare and access to opportunity—require leadership willing to work across county lines and put solutions ahead of politics.”
As the Black Belt continues to face persistent economic and social challenges, Benderson has pledged to prioritize policies that strengthen local economies, encourage private investment, and foster cooperation among municipalities and counties.
With more than 25 years of experience in community development, policy, and advocacy, Benderson brings a problem-solving mindset shaped by real-world experience. “I’ve spent my career working on how communities function and how they can function better,” he said. “I’m energized and ready to put that experience to work for the people of District 24.”
Benderson as invited residents, supporters, and community leaders to join his campaign and help shape a stronger future for Senate District 24. “Together,” he said, “we can move our district—and our state—forward with purpose and accountability.”
Benderson will be unopposed in the Republican primary on May 19, and will face Democrat Bobby Singleton—first elected to the Alabama State Senate in 2004–in the general election on November 3.
