Voters delivered a clear message in the August 26 general election for Birmingham City Council District 4: nearly 70 percent chose someone other than the incumbent, J.T. Moore. The vast majority of voters supported new leadership, according to unofficial resultsBrian Gunn earned 41 percent, while Moore received 32 percent, and challengers Joseph Holt and Darryl Williams captured 22 percent and 5 percent, respectively.

Now, the race has taken a decisive turn. Both Joseph Holt and Darryl Williams—once rivals—have formally endorsed Brian Gunn in the October 7 runoff.

In announcing the endorsements, Joseph Holt stated, “This has always been about showing up for our community, being seen, and being an advocate for the people of District 4. The voters made it clear they're ready for new leadership, and Brian Gunn has the vision and commitment to deliver it. I encourage everyone who supported me to stand with Brian in this runoff so we can build the future our neighborhoods deserve.”

Darryl Williams added, “I'm standing with Brian because we've got a lot of work to do in our neighborhoods. Brian will be the advocate we need to make sure that work gets done.”

For Gunn, the endorsements underscore growing momentum and unity behind his campaign.

"I'm honored to have the trust of Joseph Holt and Darryl Williams. Together, we represent the overwhelming majority of District 4 voters who want change. Now we're united to finish the job — to deliver safer streets, stronger neighborhoods, and real leadership that listens to and advocates for the people of District 4."

Beyond this renewed coalition, Gunn has earned broad support from business, labor, and community groups. These include endorsements from the widow of former council member Aldrich Gunn—Annie Ruth Broughton Gunn—who called on voters to “Let him win this election for all of us.” Other backers include the Alabama College Democrats, Alabama Young Democrats, Birmingham Young Democrats, the Communications Workers of America Local 3902, IBEW Local 136, the Central Alabama Labor Federation, Moms Demand Action, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, the Alabama Cannabis Coalition, and the Birmingham Realtors Association.

With both Holt and Williams now rallying behind him, Gunn has effectively unified nearly all challengers in the race. As the October 7 runoff nears, the incumbent faces mounting pressure from a consolidated opposition.
