Birmingham Launches Comprehensive Resource List for Those Facing SNAP Disruption
“BHAM READY” portal now has a dedicated hub of support services including food assistance, donation drives, other assistance
With more than 23,000 households in the Birmingham area facing interruption to their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits amid the federal government shutdown, the City is stepping in with a coordinated response, WBMA has reported.
The City’s emergency-preparedness portal, “BHAM READY,” now features a dedicated hub of support services that includes food assistance, help with utility bills, financial-aid opportunities and donation drives.
The Mayor’s office has emphasised that the resource list is designed as a quick go-to for residents feeling uncertain about how to fill the gap during the shutdown. The site points to local organisations that offer meals, groceries and other basic needs.
City leaders urge families affected by the disruption to explore the BHAM READY site and act now—rather than wait until they’re out of options.
Organizations planning an upcoming food drive are encouraged to email a flyer and details to bhamready@birminghamal.gov with the subject line: food drive.
For full details, residents are encouraged to visit the city’s dedicated page: www.birminghamal.gov/bhamready, or the food drive resources page: https://www.birminghamal.gov/fooddrive.
