June 2nd, 2025
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Today, I deliver my final legislative update with a full heart and deep gratitude. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the citizens of Chambers and Lee County. I began my journey in public service in 2002, right here in this courthouse, and it feels fitting to return here to announce my retirement.
In January, my husband accepted a job in Pensacola. Being apart during the legislative session made it clear how much I value our time together. On June 9th, we will celebrate 35 years of marriage, and I am reminded that my first and most important calling is to be his wife. While this decision to step away and move has not been easy, I know in my heart it is the right one.
Representing you—both locally and in Montgomery—has been a privilege I will always cherish. This community has supported, challenged, and inspired me throughout my service, and I am deeply thankful for the trust you placed in me.
Though I may be leaving office, this community will always remain close to me—especially with my grandbaby here, which ensures I'll be back often for visits.
Thank you for believing in me, guiding me, and allowing me the great honor of serving you. I will forever be grateful for your support and friendship. With heartfelt thanks,
Debbie Wood
State Representative, District 38
Representative Debbie Wood graduated from Southern Union Community College, and the Avery Yarbrough School of Real Estate. She and Bobby are the parents of two young adult children, Nick and Katelyn, and have three beautiful granddaughters Katherine, Lillian and Karsyn. Debbie began her real estate career in 1993 as a Sales Associate with Valley Realty. In 2000 Debbie and her husband opened Wood Real Estate and in 2007 added the Century 21 Franchise. She sold it in 2022 to become a full-time legislator.
Her involvement and love for Chambers County impelled Debbie to run for a seat on the Chambers County Commission in 2002. She served four terms as District 6 Representative for Chambers County. She was the first female to be elected as the County Commission Chair. In 2014 Debbie had the prestigious honor of serving as the President of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama. After her year of service to Alabama Debbie was appointed to serve as a representative to the National Association of County Officials Board in Washington D.C., (NACO). In 2015 Debbie was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She fought and won this life battle with help from an experienced team of physicians, double mastectomy, medication, and prayers and support from friends and family. Today she is cancer free and more determined to be involved in positive change in the region.
