Case Dixon—“Bringing criminal charges does not suspend the Constitution”
AL6 Congressional candidate Case Dixon responds the Venezuelan military action
Case Dixon, Republican candidate for Congress in Alabama’s Sixth Congressional District, has spoken on the recent Venezuelan military action. Overnight, US military forces attacked Venezuela, captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, and removed them to the USS Iwo Jima for transfer back to America to face drug charges.
Dixon told ALPolitics.com that:
“The executive branch cannot sidestep Congress’s constitutional role in matters of war, regime change, or occupation by obtaining indictments.
“Bringing criminal charges does not suspend the Constitution of the United States. The President does not gain war powers, detention authority, or the authority to govern another country simply by filing paperwork in federal court.
“The Justice Department’s 25-page superseding indictment of Nicolás Maduro focuses on cocaine and narco-terrorism allegations and it contains no mention of fentanyl or stolen oil, which have been cited as public justifications for U.S. action and continued involvement.
“These actions require explicit congressional authorization. Congress has a duty to assert its authority.”
Case Dixon is running in Alabama’s 6th Congressional District to challenge incumbent Gary Palmer in the GOP primary on May 19. Dixon has positioned himself as a watchdog focused on accountability, transparency, cutting federal spending, supporting the Constitution and a conservative vision for the nation.
