State Sen. Chris Elliott (R–Josephine) officially launched his bid for re-election Wednesday, positioning himself as a defender of conservative ideals and a fiscal watchdog for Baldwin County.

“Since becoming a lawmaker, I have been vocal about calling balls and strikes in Montgomery, and I’ve always viewed state government through the eyes of a concerned taxpayer, not a politician,” Elliott said in a statement. “At the same time, Baldwin County and its cities are among the fastest growing areas in the entire U.S., and I am working hard every day to demand the state funding and resources necessary to accommodate that growth and reflect our area’s significant contributions to Alabama’s economy.”

Elliott is currently serving his second term in the Alabama Senate, where he represents District 32. He Chairs the County and Municipal Government Committee. Elliott also holds a seat on the Senate’s General Fund budget-writing committee, which allocates nearly $4 billion annually to non-education state agencies.

Beyond his budget work, Elliott serves on several key committees: Judiciary, Tourism, Banking & Insurance, and State Government Affairs. He is also a member of the Joint Transportation Committee, where he has pushed for expanded road and bridge funding in Baldwin County and support for the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project.

He has used his role on the Legislature’s Contract Review Oversight Committee to unearth and address instances of waste, fraud, and abuse involving taxpayer dollars.

One of Elliott’s signature achievements is his backing of legislation that cut the State sales tax on groceries. The bills also give local governments the power to reduce food taxes in their jurisdictions.

Hope Cassebaum, President of the Baldwin County Farmers Federation, praised Elliott’s work in an endorsement released earlier this year: “He has a strong work ethic and has worked well with the farmers of this district on conservative issues important to us.”

Before serving in the Senate, Elliott was elected to the Baldwin County Commission and chaired the Eastern Shore Metropolitan Planning Organization.

He and his wife, Alainna, are parents to two children and attend St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bon Secour.
