Colbert County Sheriff Backs Jay Mitchell for Alabama Attorney General
“Jay Mitchell is the kind of leader law enforcement can count on“—Sheriff Eric Balentine
Colbert County Sheriff Eric Balentine has announced his formal support for Jay Mitchell in the race for Alabama Attorney General, citing Mitchell’s strong record alongside law enforcement and experience handling tough criminal matters as a former Alabama Supreme Court Justice.
“Jay Mitchell is the kind of leader law enforcement can count on,” Sheriff Balentine said. “He understands that protecting Alabama starts with protecting the men and women who risk their lives every day in the line of duty. Jay will fight to strengthen protections for law enforcement officers, expand access to mental health resources for first responders, and make sure we have what we need to keep Alabama safe. I know he’ll take care of my deputies—and every officer across this state.”
Sheriff Balentine emphasized that his endorsement reflects his long-standing commitment to equipping officers with the physical, mental, and legal support necessary to make sound decisions—both for their own safety and for the communities they serve. He said Mitchell’s proactive agendas on immunity protections, mental health services, and advanced training made him the clear choice.
Mitchell welcomed the endorsement. “Sheriff Balentine is a hands-on leader who invests in his people and his community. His passion for bettering law enforcement is contagious, and I look forward to working alongside him to make Alabama safer and stronger.”
Balentine’s backing adds weight to a growing list of law enforcement officials across the State who trust Mitchell to defend public safety and support police officers.
Mitchell will face Katherine Robertson and Pamela Casey in the May 19, 2025 Republican primary.
