College Republican Federation of Alabama Releases First 2026 GOP Primary Straw Poll Results

The College Republican Federation of Alabama (CRFA) has released its inaugural straw poll for the 2026 GOP primary. The poll of CFRA members and alumni reflects early engagement and momentum among Alabama’s young conservative activists.

In the Governor’s race, Tommy Tuberville was by far the most popular choice, receiving 77.9% of the votes. “Other” received 22.1%.

The more highly contested Lieutenant Governor‘s race showed declared candidates Wes Allen at 59.7%, Rick Pate at 13.7%, and Dr. Nicole Wadsworth at 6%. The poll also reported results from two possible candidates, John Merrill (10.7%) and John Wahl (4.3%). “Other” received 5.6%.

Another race which is expected to be highly contested is the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Tommy Tuberville, who is seeking the Governor’s chair rather than reelection to the Senate. In the CRFA poll, declared candidate Steve Marshall received slightly more than half the votes at 54.2%, with Jared Hudson receiving 8.9%. Potential candidates Barry Moore received 16.3%, Caroleene Dobson received 7.3%, and John Wahl, 2.8%. “Other” received 8.1%.

The Alabama Attorney General’s race showed Pamela Casey with 57.9%, Jay Mitchell at 21.3% and Katherine Robertson with 9.2%. Possible candidate Caroleene Dobson received 8.9%, with “Other” getting 2.8%.

In the Secretary of State’s race, Andrew Sorrell was the only choice named, receiving 80% of the votes, with “Other” receiving the remaining 20%.

Young Boozer, the only declared candidate for State Treasurer, received 85.7%, with “Other” receiving 14.3%.

For the two declared candidates in the State Auditor’s race, Derek Chin received 47.4% and John Pendergast received 30.5%. “Other” received the remaining 22.1%.

In the Commissioner of Agriculture and Industry contest, Cory Hill received 40.7%, Jack Williams received 31.8%, Christina Woerner McInnis received 17.8%, and “Other” received 9.8%.

The CRFA touted the poll, saying: “The CRFA is looking forward to welcoming each candidate to our chapters throughout the state to earn the support of Alabama’s most energetic @alabamagop auxiliary group!” .

The Alabama Republican primary will be held May 19, 2026.
