Collins Endorses Patrick Johnson for House District 8 Seat
Rep. Terri Collins backs Johnson to carry forward conservative leadership and community service as she steps down after 16 years in office
After 16 years representing House District 8, State Representative Terri Collins (R-Decatur) has publicly endorsed Republican Patrick Johnson as her preferred successor in the Alabama House of Representatives.
Collins, a long-time Morgan County lawmaker and Chair of the House Education Policy Committee, praised Johnson’s local roots and business background. “Patrick Johnson has the deep Morgan County roots, the commonsense conservative philosophy, and the firsthand business experience necessary to represent our fast-growing area in Montgomery,” she said in a statement. “Serving our community for the past 16 years has been an honor, and I know Patrick is the right choice to continue fighting for Morgan County in the committee rooms and chambers of the Alabama State House.”
Johnson has been a fixture in the Decatur business community for more than 17 years as owner and operator of a local insurance company. Collins highlighted his governing philosophy, “Listen First, Serve Always,” saying it will guide him if voters send him to Montgomery.
Patrick Johnson welcomed Collins’ backing and acknowledged the weight of her support. “Throughout her service in Montgomery, Terri Collins has made a lasting positive impact in the lives of every public school student, every Alabama family, and every resident of our state, and we are all better off thanks to the work she has done,” Johnson said. “I am proud and humbled that she trusts me to pick up her baton and continue the effort to bring meaningful conservative change to Alabama and make an already great state even better.”
A lifelong Morgan County resident, Johnson has served in community leadership roles including chairman of the Decatur-Morgan Chamber of Commerce board of directors and president of the Decatur Kiwanis Club. He also received the University of North Alabama’s Community Service Award.
Johnson has been endorsed by the Alabama Farmer’s Federation in his bid for the District 8 seat. “Patrick grew up on a farm and is a small business owner who knows the needs of both business and agriculture,” said Mike Reeves, President of the Morgan County Farmers Federation. “He will carry that experience and knowledge to Montgomery to represent us in the Legislature.”
Collins first won election to the Alabama Legislature in 2010 and has been a vocal advocate for public education reforms and conservative policy. She sponsored landmark legislation including the Human Life Protection Act and education initiatives that expanded literacy programs, school choice options, and accountability systems.
