U.S. Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-AL4) is inviting Alabamians to take part in a unique, nationwide event on Friday, April 18, commemorating the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s legendary midnight ride.

Aderholt, who serves on the America 250 Semiquincentennial Commission, is asking individuals, schools, churches, and community groups across Alabama to join in the “Two Lights of Tomorrow” observance. The symbolic tribute aims to inspire civic unity and reflect on the historic moment that signaled the start of the American Revolution.

“April 18 marks a defining moment in American history—the night Paul Revere rode through the streets of Massachusetts to warn that freedom was at risk,” said Aderholt. “This year, we have an opportunity to honor that spirit of courage and citizenship here in Alabama, just as 38 other states across the country will be doing.”

The commemoration encourages the public to display two lights—in windows, on porches, or throughout public spaces. This gesture honors the two lanterns that once shone from Boston’s Old North Church, signaling the British army's advance by sea. Today, the “two lights” serve as a call for renewed civic engagement and national unity.

In support of the initiative, the American Village Citizenship Trust, based in Montevallo, Alabama, has produced a promotional video to raise awareness about the event. That video is being shared nationally, and media outlets across the country are expected to showcase photos and videos from local celebrations.

Aderholt also noted the spiritual significance of this year’s April 18 commemoration, which coincides with Good Friday.

“This year, April 18 is also Good Friday—the day we remember the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus Christ, who gave His life on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins,” he said. “As we honor a pivotal moment in our nation's history, it is deeply meaningful that we also reflect on the foundation of our faith—the hope and redemption we have through Christ’s death and resurrection. It is a powerful reminder that true freedom—both spiritual and civic—comes at a great cost.”

Aderholt is encouraging all participants to share their observances on social media using the hashtag #TwoLightsForTomorrow.
