Copeland Johnson, Hoover City Council Candidate—Stretch Your Vote: Why I’m Running to Enhance Hoover’s Leadership
“I am running to make a heightened impact and to give back to the city that not only trained, but encouraged, me to lead”—Copeland Johnson

Written by Copeland Johnson
From the minute I walk into a room, standing nearly seven feet tall, people notice. I want Hoover voters to know that I do not just stand tall in stature; I stand tall in my commitment to our community. I am running to make a heightened impact and to give back to the city that not only trained, but encouraged, me to lead. As a youth leader in Hoover, I was repeatedly told by Hoover teachers, coaches, and pastors that I would be the future of my hometown. As a man, I work at a remarkably successful small business in Hoover, I am a graduate of Spain Park High School, I have lived in Greystone for over 15 years, and I have also attended Church of the Highlands in Hoover for almost that long. PLACE 2 is an open seat and in dire need of a
successor who will lead with valor, vigor, and a voice that brings advocacy and resolve. I understand the assignment. I am running because that is the type of leader I was trained by Hoover to be.
I realize that it sometimes takes effort for voters to vote using substantive factors beyond a familiar name, experience with the status quo, or a sense of obligation to someone well-liked or well-heeled. My campaign slogan for PLACE 2, “Stretch Your Vote,” is more than a play on my height. It is a call to action for voters. It is a way to present the towering possibilities offered by fresh leadership, for those voters willing to rise to the challenge.
I have offered voters a preview of what a grassroots, Hoover trained, Hoover strong leadership looks like. I was able to meet with residents and stakeholders to raise awareness regarding citywide stormwater issues and host a Town Hall. When residents have seen me show up in their neighborhoods and at community meetings to learn and help, or heard me discuss specific goals with new perspectives, they know that their votes will be on the job!
At a time when residents under 30 are set as major contributors to the housing market and school population, and serve an economic engine with over 40 years of earning potential,
Hoover is lacking a single councilperson in that age group. I am also running to contribute that insight to at least one place on the council, for the betterment of the entire team. The best quality of life that Hoover has to offer should be available to Hoover residents young and old,
East to West, in Jefferson or Shelby County, and regardless of whether the property has a history of stormwater problems. I will work energetically to make it so. Every councilperson represents every resident. If I am elected, I will make PLACE 2 a reliable source of information and advocacy. I would appreciate your vote for Copeland Johnson, Hoover City Council PLACE 2 on August 26, 2025.
