Dale Strong April Recap: Championing North Alabama
From the office of U.S. Representative Dale Strong (R-AL-05)
From the office of Congressman Dale Strong
April was a productive month focused on delivering real results for the people of North Alabama. From advancing tax relief for working families and supporting small businesses, to strengthening our national defense and reinforcing our leadership in space exploration, we’ve continued working to keep our region moving forward. I also had the opportunity to meet with students, educators, and local leaders while advocating for key investments in infrastructure, workforce development, and American manufacturing.
Every effort this month has been centered on supporting our communities, growing our economy, and ensuring North Alabama remains at the forefront of innovation and opportunity. It is an honor to represent and work for the people of North Alabama in Congress.
I hope you'll read the rest of this newsletter to learn more about what we accomplished this month and how it impacts you and your family.

Advancing Tax Relief
Thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, more than 53 million people were able to claim at least one of the major tax cuts this year. The goal was simple: let people keep more of what they earn. On average, tax refunds are up to over $3,400, about an 11% increase from last year.
More than 6 million Americans claimed No Tax on Tips, saving an average of over $7,100, while 25 million workers kept more of their hard-earned pay through No Tax on Overtime, with average savings exceeding $3,100. More than 30 million seniors claimed an enhanced deduction averaging over $7,500.
Families continue to benefit from an expanded Child Tax Credit, now claimed by over 34 million households, and the permanently doubled standard deduction, used by more than 105 million filers. Additional relief, like deductions for car loan interest and the growing use of Trump Accounts, now totaling 5 million, is helping Americans plan and save for the future.
These results reflect a clear commitment to lowering taxes, supporting workers, and strengthening our economy. At the end of the day, this is about easing some of the financial pressure and giving families a little more breathing room. And while this is a good start, there’s more work ahead. The 2025 reconciliation bill really set the stage for what we can continue building on in 2026.
I’m going to keep pushing to cut waste and make sure your tax dollars are being used responsibly, because that money belongs with you and your family.

Leading American Space Dominance
This month, America launched the first crewed deep space mission in over fifty years, and we should all be proud of the role North Alabama played in making it happen.
I extend my deepest congratulations to NASA and the team at Marshall Space Flight Center on the successful launch of Artemis II. A historic step forward in America’s return to deep space exploration, this mission represents years of hard work, innovation, and dedication. It would not be possible without the extraordinary talent and teamwork found right here in Alabama’s Fifth District.
From the engineers and scientists at Marshall Space Flight Center to the skilled workforce and suppliers across North Alabama, our community continues to play a central role in advancing America’s leadership in space.
Last year, Republicans passed landmark legislation that delivered over $6.7 billion to sustain and strengthen the Artemis program. H.R. 1 included $4.1 billion for two Space Launch System rockets supporting Artemis IV and V missions, continued investment in the Orion capsule’s spacecraft integration, and critical infrastructure upgrades at Marshall Space Flight Center. These are direct investments in North Alabama’s workforce, facilities, and systems that make deep space exploration possible.
As Congress turns to the Fiscal Year 2027 budget, I will continue to push for SLS as the backbone of Artemis IV, V, VI, and future missions, because it is the only proven system capable of delivering astronauts, cargo, and critical exploration systems beyond low-Earth orbit in a single launch.

Strengthening Local Workforce Training
It’s always a pleasure to visit Drake State Community & Technical College and see firsthand the incredible work being done to prepare the next generation of Alabama’s workforce. Drake State continues to lead the way in aligning education with the needs of business and industry, creating a strong pipeline of highly skilled workers who are ready to meet the demands of today’s economy.
Drake State is opening doors of opportunity for students across North Alabama. Whether it’s advanced manufacturing, information technology, or career technical education, the college is equipping individuals with the tools they need to succeed in high-demand fields while helping local employers grow and thrive.
As Drake State approaches its 65th anniversary, I’m proud to support the college’s continued growth and its mission to expand access to quality education, strengthen our local economy, and ensure that opportunities remain right here at home for future generations.

Supporting Small Businesses
I had a great time stopping by Cuppa Yo in Madison, a proud veteran-owned small business. It was a pleasure visiting with owners Tony and Katie Caldwell and seeing firsthand the positive impact they are making in their community, not just by serving up great frozen yogurt, but by creating jobs and opportunities for local residents.
Small business owners like the Caldwells take on tremendous responsibility as job creators, signing the front of a paycheck and often providing young people with their very first work experience. I will continue fighting in Congress to support policies that empower small businesses to grow, succeed, and keep investing back into our communities.
Investing in Defense Innovation
I was honored to attend the groundbreaking for the Redstone Test Center’s new Military Systems Electromagnetic Test Support facility at Redstone Arsenal. The Redstone Test Center is one of the Army’s premier and most innovative testing organizations, and this new facility represents a significant investment in the future of our national defense. Once complete, MSETS will provide a state-of-the-art environment for testing advanced weapons systems and electronic warfare capabilities, including operations in GPS-denied and contested environments, conditions our warfighters increasingly face on the modern battlefield.
This project is a major win for North Alabama, further solidifying our region’s role at the forefront of defense innovation. It will ensure that our servicemen and women are equipped with the most advanced, reliable tools possible to succeed in any environment. Investments like this keep America ahead of emerging threats, strengthen our military readiness, and reinforce the critical role Rocket City plays in protecting our nation.
Driving American Manufacturing Growth
It was a pleasure visiting the Polaris manufacturing facility and seeing American industry at work firsthand. During my visit, I had the opportunity to tour the plant, meet with dedicated employees, and gain valuable insight into the day-to-day operations that drive this impressive operation.
Polaris is a prime example of the innovation and craftsmanship that define American manufacturing. In addition to producing world-class off-road and recreational vehicles, the company plays a vital role in supporting our national defense by manufacturing advanced tactical vehicles used by our servicemembers in the field. Their work not only strengthens our economy but also contributes directly to our national security.
Visits like this reinforce the importance of policies that support domestic manufacturing, invest in our workforce, and create an environment where businesses can grow and succeed. I remain committed to advancing policies that protect American jobs, encourage innovation, and ensure that companies like Polaris continue to thrive right here at home in North Alabama and across the country.
Engaging with North Alabama Leaders
It’s always a pleasure to welcome the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber to Capitol Hill. Their annual fly-in is a reminder of how engaged our community is, and I was proud to provide an update on the work I’m doing in Congress to support local industry, strengthen our workforce, and bring meaningful federal investment back to North Alabama. From defense and aerospace to small businesses and infrastructure, we’re focused on ensuring our region continues to lead and grow.
I’m especially grateful to Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise for taking the time to meet with our delegation and share their perspectives. Their engagement underscores the importance of the priorities we’re advancing together for Huntsville, Madison County, and all of North Alabama.
Advancing Infrastructure for Growth
I had a productive meeting this month with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy to discuss the continued growth of North Alabama and the critical role that strategic infrastructure investments play in sustaining that momentum. As our region continues to expand, it’s essential that our transportation networks keep pace with the demands of a thriving economy and a growing population.
We also talked about the importance of strong federal partnerships to support key projects that enhance connectivity, improve safety, and drive economic development across our communities. As a member of the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, I remain committed to advocating for the resources and investments North Alabama needs to stay competitive, attract new opportunities, and keep our region moving forward.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Leaders
One of the best parts of my job is getting to meet with the bright minds that will shape the future of our communities. It was great to say hello to this group of 8th grade students from Madison Academy.
Visits like these are a great reminder of the talent and potential we have right here in North Alabama. I always enjoy answering students’ questions, sharing a little about how Congress works, and encouraging them to stay engaged and involved in their communities. The next generation of leaders is already making an impact, and I’m confident our future is in good hands.
Securing USSPACECOM Funding
U.S. Space Command Headquarters at Redstone Arsenal is one step closer to its permanent home with the Appropriations Committee’s passage of the Fiscal Year 2027 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies funding bill, which provides $565 million for the headquarters’ design and construction.
Establishing the Space Command headquarters at Redstone Arsenal is long overdue. This investment not only enhances our military strategy but also reinforces North Alabama’s critical role in our national defense.
The funding, which passed the House Appropriations Committee during markup, includes $115 million for design and $450 million for construction of the facility. This is a major step in the right direction to get shovels in the ground and deliver a permanent home for Space Command.
This legislation now heads to the full House for consideration, and I will keep fighting to ensure this project moves forward.
Expanding the Healthcare Workforce
I was proud to request $3.8 million in the FY27 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development bill to help Calhoun Community College complete the buildout of more than 35,000 square feet at its Huntsville campus in Cummings Research Park.
This expansion will strengthen high-demand healthcare workforce training programs, helping ensure we have the skilled professionals needed to support our growing community. Last year, I toured the space, and it’s clear this investment will deliver real results. With strong support and partnership from Huntsville Hospital, this effort represents a smart, collaborative approach to meeting workforce needs and keeping North Alabama at the forefront of healthcare and economic growth.
Bolstering Homeland Security Readiness
Staying ahead of evolving threats is essential to keeping America safe. That’s why I helped convene a Homeland Security roundtable focused on how emerging technologies can strengthen our nation’s security and preparedness.
During the discussion, I had the opportunity to hear directly from industry leaders, including innovators from North Alabama, who are developing cutting-edge tools to detect, deter, and respond to the challenges of tomorrow. From advancements in cybersecurity to next-generation defense systems, it is clear that American ingenuity continues to play a critical role in safeguarding our homeland.
As threats grow more complex, we must remain proactive. I will continue working in Congress to ensure the Department of Homeland Security has the resources, authorities, and technological capabilities it needs to protect the American people.
Improving Postal Service Reliability
As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I was proud to help advance the Fiscal Year 2027 Financial Services and General Government funding bill, which includes two key provisions for North Alabama.
The first provision directs the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General to evaluate delivery performance, staffing levels, and operational bottlenecks in areas with ongoing service issues, including North Alabama. Families, small businesses, and seniors depend on timely, reliable mail delivery, whether it’s for receiving medication, paying bills, or managing daily commerce. This audit brings accountability and oversight to the Postal Service by identifying systemic failures and ensuring it implements the necessary changes to improve reliability and efficiency.
Since coming to Congress, I’ve heard my constituents’ concerns regarding the lack of reliable mail service. I remain concerned about the negative impacts of consolidation, including degraded mail service, declining customer satisfaction, and cost overruns. This audit is about getting clear answers and making sure the Postal Service delivers the level of service our communities expect.
The second provision directs USPS to continue its internal review of cases where ZIP codes overlap municipal boundaries, resulting in multiple or incorrect city designations. While the original review included Priceville, Alabama, this provision requires an updated report that includes an analysis for consideration of a unique ZIP code designation for Skyline, Alabama.
Championing Alabama’s Role in Space
In my role as Vice Chair of the Appropriations Commerce, Justice, and Science Subcommittee, I participated in a hearing looking at NASA’s budget for 2027. My questions to NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman focused on the agency’s plan to execute the upcoming Artemis missions, return Americans to the Moon, and ensure continued U.S. leadership in deep space exploration.
I highlighted the critical role of the Marshall Space Flight Center and North Alabama’s workforce in powering America’s space program and stressed the importance of sustained investment in certified and proven systems like the Space Launch System and the Orion spacecraft, as well as the need to sustain the skilled engineers, technicians, small businesses, and contractors who power NASA’s mission.
We also got into the details of how NASA plans to follow through long-term. I raised concerns about proposed changes to the SLS, emphasizing that it is currently the only proven, human-rated rocket capable of delivering astronauts, cargo, and critical systems to deep space in a single launch.
The road to the Golden Age of Space Exploration runs through the Rocket City, and I will continue advocating for North Alabama’s unmatched capabilities.

I look forward to continuing working for North Alabamians. It is always an honor to serve our hard-working community in Congress. I am committed to ensuring your voice continues to be heard.
Thank you for your continued support, your thoughtful feedback, and the trust you place in me to serve. I look forward to sharing more updates in the months ahead and continuing to work on behalf of our great state. Wishing you and your family a joyful spring season and many blessings in the weeks to come.
Sincerely,
