The U.S. House of Representatives this week passed a key fiscal 2026 appropriations package that includes more than $12 million in Community Project Funding secured by Congressman Dale Strong (R-AL5) for public safety and infrastructure needs across North Alabama. The spending bill now heads to the Senate for consideration before going to the President’s desk.

The funding is part of H.R. 6938, the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act, 2026, which the House approved on January 8 by a bipartisan vote of 397-28.

“I’m proud to have secured over $12 million in this funding package to deliver meaningful investments for communities across North Alabama,” Strong said in his official announcement. “These resources represent my commitment to strengthening public safety, supporting local law enforcement, and advancing innovation.”

Strong highlighted projects that range from upgraded 911 radio systems and police equipment to improved water infrastructure and enhanced research capabilities. He said they address both immediate needs and support long-term growth in the region.

Community Project Funding Allocations in AL-05

  • $1,500,000 — Town of Rogersville: construct an elevated water storage tank to ensure reliable water capacity, pressure and service.
  • $592,305 — Priceville Police Department: purchase new patrol vehicles and update equipment.
  • $300,000 — Hartselle Police Department: replace aging radio systems and modernize gear.
  • $4,135,000 — Auburn University Applied Research Institute, Huntsville: acquire high-performance computing for national security and defense work.
  • $4,200,000 — University of Alabama in Huntsville AI Research Facility for Space and Defense: support innovation, national security and workforce development.
  • $199,762 — Somerville Police Department: purchase new vehicles and upgrade technology for officers.

These investments target critical services and infrastructure in cities and counties throughout the Fifth Congressional District.

Strong also noted that with earlier funding approved late last year, he will have delivered more than $18 million in Community Project Funding to North Alabama for fiscal year 2026.

As the minibus funding package moves to the Senate, lawmakers continue work on full-year federal spending measures that would fund government operations through September 30, 2026.
