Dear Alabama Senate Members,

I am writing to you with urgency and deep concern following the House passage of HB53 earlier today. As the bill now moves to the Senate, I respectfully request that you take immediate action to oppose its advancement out of committee.

HB53, as currently written, lacks the comprehensive and balanced solutions.

Moving HB53 forward without a public hearing would be a disservice to thousands of families across our state who are impacted by outdated and inconsistent custody laws. This is not just a legislative issue—it’s a human one. The stakes are too high to rush through legislation that hasn’t been fully vetted in a public forum.

I urge you to slow the process, listen to the voices of Alabama families, and allow HB229 to be fairly and transparently considered as the better path forward.

Please use your influence to hold HB53 in committee and ensure the public has the opportunity to weigh in. Our children deserve thoughtful, deliberate reform—not hurried legislation.

Thank you for your service and for standing with families who deserve to be heard.

Sincerely,

Chad McAllister
