Democratic Municipal Officials Throw Support Behind Brian Gunn, Barbara Drummond in Birmingham, Mobile Races
Nat’l organization of Democrat leaders steps into critical Alabama contests

The Democratic Municipal Officials (DMO), a national organization of Democratic Mayors, Council Members, School Board Members and other local leaders, has made formal endorsements in two key Alabama elections.
DMO has endorsed Brian Gunn in the Birmingham City Council District 4 race, and State Representative Barbara Drummond for Mayor of Mobile.
Brian Gunn, a native of District 4, aims to “revitalize neighborhoods, support small businesses, improve public safety through community-driven solutions, and expand opportunities for young people through stronger schools and workforce development.”
In a public message, Gunn wrote:
“I’m honored to be endorsed by Democratic Municipal Officials (DMO) — the national voice of Democratic mayors, council members, & local leaders across the country. We’re building a stronger District 4 & a brighter Birmingham. Let’s finish strong Oct 7!”
Barbara Drummond, who represents Alabama’s 103rd House District, is running to become Mayor of Mobile. Her campaign centers on economic growth, dependable city services, and bolstering public safety.
Drummond’s victory would mark a significant shift: the Mayor’s office in Mobile has been held by Republicans for decades, and a win by Drummond would place it under Democratic control.
With both contests—Birmingham’s District 4 council seat and Mobile’s open mayoral race—drawing national and local attention, DMO’s backing could prove influential in shaping voter perceptions.
Democratic Municipal Officials is a growing force within the Democratic Party. It claims the title of fastest-growing constituency organization of local leaders across the U.S., with a mission to connect, empower, and uplift municipal officials who have direct impact in their communities.
