Devito Affirms Support for Boyd in Democrat Governor’s Race
“I've met Dr. Boyd several times in person. I think he's got the right plan for Alabama”—Jeremy Devito
Jeremy Devito, Democratic candidate for Congress in Alabama’s 5th district has confirmed that he is supporting Dr. Will Boyd in the Democrat primary for Governor over former U.S. Senator Doug Jones.
Devito spoke with ALpoliyics.com about Jones’ entry into the race, saying:
“Doug Jones is a great politician. He did well for this State. But, I think that time has come and gone. That's why I put my energy and my effort behind Will Boyd.
“I've met Dr. Boyd several times in person. I think he's got the right plan for Alabama and I think people who jumped into this race earlier have that conviction, and that drive, to do something for Alabama.
“It feels like, for Doug, he would be better as an endorser. As somebody who is recognized nationally as a Democrat—and in Alabama, when you think of a Democrat, you think Doug Jones—I think that in the state that this party is in, in Alabama? It requires some leadership in that capacity, someone who is willing to step aside but lift the party up.
“I think that he could be way more effective by pushing others like Dr. Boyd, myself, other people. other Democrats, who are trying to bring this party into a new age in the State, and be a part of that national conversation and change the image of Alabama.”
Boyd has been campaigning for the Democratic nomination since he launched his campaign in June. Jones has only recently declared, after having teased a run for weeks.
