Director Patel Tours Redstone Arsenal with Britt and Tuberville Amid Major FBI Move to Alabama
The visit comes as the FBI prepares to transfer approximately 500 agents and personnel to Huntsville.

New FBI Director Kash Patel toured Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville on Monday, joined by Alabama Senators Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville, as part of the Bureau’s ongoing plans to relocate hundreds of employees from Washington, D.C. to North Alabama.
The visit comes as the FBI prepares to transfer approximately 500 agents and personnel to Huntsville—a move that could grow the already sizeable presence at Redstone, which currently hosts over 1,300 FBI employees. This expansion is part of a broader strategy by Patel to decentralize the agency and increase operational focus across the country.
Senator Katie Britt praised the initiative, saying, “This is a testament to Alabama’s growing role in our nation’s security. We’ve invested heavily in Redstone Arsenal, and now we’re seeing those efforts pay off.” Britt added that she and Senator Tuberville “will continue working to ensure the FBI fully staffs the facility and makes the most of the cutting-edge infrastructure available here.”
Senator Tuberville echoed those sentiments, taking a shot at the Bureau’s D.C. operations. “Our FBI agents shouldn’t be stuck behind desks in Washington. They should be where the real work gets done,” he said. “Huntsville offers exactly what they need—top-tier technology, room to grow, and a supportive community.”
The tour included stops at both the FBI’s North and South Campuses at Redstone. The North Campus already trains agents on cyber threats and emerging tech, while the South Campus is still under development and will expand the Bureau’s capabilities even further.
In February, Britt and Tuberville sent a joint letter to Director Patel urging the Bureau to immediately fill more than 1,000 open positions at Redstone and highlighting the site’s capacity to house up to 4,000 personnel.
Patel has publicly committed to continuing the relocation and growth of the FBI's presence in Alabama, telling Britt during his confirmation hearing, “Senator, you have that commitment.”
As construction continues and more agents prepare to make the move, North Alabama is cementing its reputation as a key hub for federal law enforcement and national defense operations.
