District 12 Special Election Runoff Expected—Hollingsworth, Myrex Comment on Race
Expected runoff will be held August 12

The Republican primary special election in Alabama House District 12 is expected to require a runoff election between Clint Hollingsworth and Cindy Myrex.
In the July 15 primary, Myrex received 49.81% of the votes, with Hollingsworth receiving 43.24% of the 4,276 votes cast. Heather Doyle and Dan McWhorter were also on the ballot, receiving 3.51% and 3.44%, respectively.
Some 20 provisional ballots remain to be counted next Tuesday, July 22. It is possible that Myrex could win without a runoff, but the Alabama Republican Party, Myrex and Hollingsworth all appear to be going forward under the assumption that a runoff will be necessary.
The anticipated runoff will be held on August 12.
ALPolitics.com reached out to both candidates for comments after the election.
Clint Hollingsworth issued the following statement:
"I would like to thank my supporters and everyone that turned out to vote in the District 12 Primary. Over the last few months I've heard from a lot of residents about their concerns for the district and it has been great getting to know people across the county. I look forward to upcoming forums and debates with Cindy sharing our beliefs and the issues that face District 12. Cullman County deserves a proven leader with the record and experience of getting things done."
Cindy Myrex said:
“I want to thank every single person for your support and dedication to this campaign. Your prayers, contributions and sign work have been amazing! Between now and the runoff on August 12th, I’ll be doing what I’ve been doing—talking to you, and listening to what you have to say about the things that matter at you. I look forward to sharing more about our ideas for District 12, and I can’t wait to bring a fresh perspective to Cullman County’s representation in Montgomery.”
Both Myrex and Hollingsworth received powerful endorsements during the race—the Alabama Farmers Federation (ALFA) for Myrex and the Business Council of Alabama (BCA) for Hollingsworth.
The winner of the runoff will face Democrat Matthew Glover in the special general election on October 28.
