Troy, AL – Doug Jones and Congressman Shomari C. Figures are heading to Troy on Tuesday, August 18th for a joint town hall with students and voters from across Pike County.

The event, hosted by the Troy University College Democrats and Pike County Democrats, will be held at 5 p.m. at the Trojan Center Ballroom. Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and everyone in between are welcome. There will be no pre-screened questions, no script, and no topics off limits. Jones and Figures will take questions directly from voters.

“A student graduating from Troy shouldn’t feel like they have to leave Alabama to find a good-paying job or build the life they want,” said Jones. “We need to build a state our young people are proud not just to come from, but to stay in, to come home to and to help lead into the future”

The town hall is happening as students return to Troy University for the fall semester and young Alabamians face many of the same issues Jones has heard about while traveling the state, including the cost of housing and groceries, access to healthcare, the quality of their education and finding good-paying jobs after graduation.

“Young people want to know that there is a future for them right here in Alabama, that they can graduate, find a good job, build a life and stay in the communities they call home,” said Figures. “That starts with listening to them and understanding the challenges they are actually facing.”
