Doug Jones Brings Veterans Town Hall to Anniston

Birmingham, AL – Doug Jones believes honoring veterans takes more than thanking them for their service. It takes keeping the promises we make to the men and women who served our country.

On Tuesday, September 8, Jones will bring his statewide town hall series to the Anniston City Meeting Center for a conversation focused on Alabama’s veterans, service members and military families. 

“When someone raises their hand and puts on the uniform, we make a promise to them and their family,” Jones said. “That promise doesn’t end when their service does. Honoring veterans means keeping our promise to them by making sure veterans and military families have the health care they need, the benefits they earned, and the opportunities to build a career after service.”

Jones chose Anniston because of the area’s strong veteran community and deep military roots, from Fort McClellan to the Anniston Army Depot. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Jones led the bipartisan repeal of the Military Widow’s Tax, restoring full benefits to thousands of surviving military spouses. He also helped expand veterans’ access to mental health care and fought for greater accountability within the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“I want to hear directly from Alabama veterans and military families about how this country and this state can better fulfill our promise to you,” Jones said. “I worked across the aisle to deliver for veterans in the Senate. I’ll do the same as your governor.”

While the discussion will focus on issues affecting veterans, service members and military families, all community members are encouraged to attend and ask questions. The town hall begins at 5:30 p.m. CT and is open to Democrats, Republicans, and everyone in between.
