Doug Jones confirmed on Monday that he has filed paperwork to run for Governor of Alabama in 2026.

In a video released Monday on social media, Jones said:

“Hey, folks. I have finally confirmed the worst-kept secret in the State of Alabama. I am running for Governor of Alabama.”

Jones went on to say that “over the last few weeks and months, Louise and I have listened to you. We have heard you. And, we so much appreciate everything that people have said to us…It’s because of you, it’s why we decided to do this…because you folks in Alabama deserve a Governor who is going to fight for them.”

Jones said that an official kick-off event would be held

“sometime next month,” after Thanksgiving.

“What we’ve heard all along is that Alabama wants someone who lives here, who works here, who listens to the people of this State, who understands the people of this State, and Alabama wants their next Governor to be someone who treats this State with grace and dignity, and not just like a rest stop on the way to the Florida beach,” Jones said.

Jones has been teasing a run for some time and, as reported yesterday, sources were claiming that he was going to file the necessary paperwork with the Secretary of State’s office sometime “this coming week.”

With Jones entry, there are now five Democrats who have announced in the Governor’s race, including Dr. Will Boyd, Ja’Mel Brown, Yolanda Flowers and Chad “Chig” Martin.

The Alabama primary election for both Democrats and Republicans will be held May 19, 2026.
